New Motorolas at 3GSM
We've just come from the Motorola stand. They had a really interesting selection of phones, probably the best for a while. The real killer is the Z8, which is basically what they're calling a zip slider phone. It's hard to describe, so check out the video on Tech Digest later. But what it does is the mechanism curves, so it kind of matches the contour of your face. The phone has got fantastic screen, it's basic QVGA and it will play video at 30 frames a sec; the demo we saw of the media player was really excellent. It's HSDPA, so up to 3.6 megabits per second download speed. They're also doing a deal with it in the UK with Sky, so it has some Sky applications built in. Pretty impressive phone actually. The other big one they had was the Q, the Moto Q Series, which is basically their smart phone. It's kind of like a BlackBerry style killer with a big keyboard. It runs Windows Mobile, has all the usual Windows Mobile paraphernalia. It's just a nicely designed phone also runs with DPA. They are bringing it to Europe fairly soon. I think, you know, both phones will do really well. Mororola have been a little quiet recently - I think this is a sign that they are back on the case a little bit.
