Samsung WiMAX at 3GSM
Hi, this is Ashley, at 3GSM in Barcelona. It's a very very frantic start to the day. Just been over to Samsung and checked out what they're doing in WiMAX. Some very interesting stuff. The most interesting thing was something called the SPHP 9000, which is one of their UMPCs. It basically sort of morphs from being a kinda tiny laptop to sort of a screen with a big keyboard. It's so interesting. The WiMAX stuff they had! They also had the sort of WiMAX USB Dongle as well and a WiMAX enabled phone, and they're talking about mobile WiMAX happening in Europe this year. Talking about uploads and downloads, these are very impressive. The big thing is the upload speeds are so much faster than HSDPA, so for example you know it can be as much as 2 to 3 megabits a sec upload, so great for obviously picking the YouTube videos up. It was a pretty impressive demonstration; have to wait and see which operators actually choose to go with it. At the moment though it just looks like an interesting technology. They've also got plenty of partners with it. Nokia are very keen on it but so far I think it's pretty impressive. We're off to go and check out Nokia and Sony Ericsson now so see ya later.
